Meet Ramjaane

Born in the Congo, Ramjaane is the youngest child of Rwandan parents who fled their home country to escape tribal massacres. His father died when Ramjaane was two years old. Early in life he learned what it meant to be a refugee, an outsider without the necessities of life. In 1994, Ramjaane’s family returned to Rwanda. This was a time of genocide against Tutsi.

At an early age, Ramjaane discovered acting and began performing at home, school, and church. While he enjoyed acting, he did not think of it as his life-long career. That changed in 2009 when he developed a passion for comedy. From that point on he was a professional comedian performing at various Christian events.

In October 2013 he established the Christian comedy group, “Comedy Doers.” His passion for comedy and his popularity as a comedian grew and, in 2014, “The Ramjaane Show—Live and Laugh” appeared on television. 2014 was a special year for Ramjaane. In addition to his show, he was chosen to host the annual Grove Awards, a ceremony that promotes and celebrates gospel artists across Africa. The year became exceptionally special in December, when he established the Ramjaane Joshua Foundation. He remembered being hungry and destitute as a child and now he had an opportunity to help others who were suffering. In 2015 Ramjaane applied to the U.S. Department of State for an Electronic Diversity Visa. In 2016, the government selected him to receive the visa and green card. He entered this country on April 19, 2016. As a child, Ramjaane loved cows and Texas cowboys, so the capital of Texas became his new home and the location of the Ramjaane Joshua Foundation.

As Executive Director of the foundation, Ramjaane spends his days meeting and talking with new refugees and immigrants, learning their needs, and arranging for the support and encouragement that will make their relocation less frightening and stressful. Ramjaane earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from Westminster Theological College and Seminary. Currently he serves as International Minister at Westover Hills Church of Christ. He and his wife, Gentille, have four children, Vanessa, Holy, Kendrick, and Chosen. Ramjaane loves to spend time with his family and with his friends on the soccer field.
